Obituary

William Timberlake Manning, II   1944-2018

William Timberlake Manning died on June 18, 2018 in West Palm Beach, FL.   He was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on April 17, 1944 to C. Lester and Frances Manning of Mystic, Connecticut.  Tim was a graduate of Tabor Academy (1962) where he served as Executive Officer of the academy schooner "Tabor Boy", and attended the University of Hartford.

Tim is survived by his sister, Dee, and her husband Barney Hodges, and their three children; Georgia Hodges and her husband, Doug Jacuzzi; Kate Springer and her husband Ted Springer, and Barney Hodges and his wife Christiana Hodges. Tim was predeceased by his parents.

He enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1967, and received the American Spirit Honor Medal, given to the recruit who best displays "outstanding qualities of leadership best expressing the American spirit – honor, initiative, loyalty and high example to comrades in arms."

Tim spent his career as a licensed U. S. Merchant Marine Officer skippering both sailing and motor vessels off the shores of the eastern seaboard.  From 1996-1999  he worked for Global Industries, Ltd. where he was certified in dynamic positioning and operated large vessels tending the oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana.

In his retirement, Tim lived in Vermont, Costa Rica and Florida. Never losing his passion for boats, he took up fine woodworking and made rustic wooden tables that he varnished to shine the like the woodwork on a vessel.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL for caring for Tim in his final days.
