IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Walter L.
Fisher
January 16, 1932 – July 27, 2025
In Loving Memory of Walter L. Fisher (1932–2025)
Walter L. Fisher, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, at Jupiter Hospital in Jupiter, Florida.
Born on January 16, 1932, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Walter lived a life defined by courage, humility, and service. As a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, he traveled around the world to various duty assignments and during the Vietnam War, he flew combat missions, often into the heart of danger, guided by a deep sense of duty and a fierce loyalty to his fellow Soldiers. His bravery earned him numerous commendations to include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device for heroism in battle, at least 14 Air Medal with Oak Cluster, and recognition from the German government for his skill in piloting his helicopter to rescue local civilians in an emergency.
After 20 years of honorable military service, Walter retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Three and began a fulfilling career with Pratt & Whitney that spanned 25 years, taking him to both California and Florida. A true gentleman who put his family first, he was always willing to listen and thoughtfully share knowledge and experience. He also found great joy in baseball and sports in general, embraced every opportunity to explore the world, and delighted in sharing stories, always with a touch of humor.
Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Renate, his partner of 46 years, whom he met while stationed overseas in Germany and loved every day since. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy D. Elsishans, and granddaughter Heidi Sterrett.
He is survived by his brothers David Fisher, Joe Fisher, and Carl Elsishans and his five children— Harold James Fisher of Mt. Juliet, TN, Dorothee Fisher McClyment of Fountain, CO, Renate Fisher Sterrett of Golden, CO, Walter (Skip) Fisher of Port St. Lucie, FL and Nancy Anne Fisher Woltz of Benicia, CA. — and seven grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, all of whom adored "Opa". His stories, his strength, and shared wisdom will live on in each of them.
The Viewing and Chapel Service will be held on Wednesday, August 20th at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. respectively, at the Palm Beach National Funeral Home and Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
