Sophie Carter of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022.  She is remembered as a kind-hearted, fun-loving, and gregarious mother, aunt, sister, and friend who lovingly opened her home and heart to family when they needed her most.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and was married to Bobby Joe Carter for 56 years before his passing in 2020.  She is survived by four sons, Robert, Kenneth, Ronald, and Donald, and her two brothers, Michael and Alexander.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Joshua, Ethan, Austin, and Kevin.

Sophie and Bobby lived their early years in Detroit, where she enjoyed porch sitting and visiting with the neighbors on Bockley Street in Sterling Heights. She and Bobby moved to Florida after his retirement from G.E. in 1985.  There, they settled in Royal Palm Beach and built their dream home where they lived for over 37 wonderful years of retirement. Together, they enjoyed daily drives around South Florida and visits from their sons, families, and their many relatives.

A private family gathering will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the Palm Beach National Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the South Florida National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside Bobby.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor be made to a charity of their own choice. Both Sophie and Bobby were particularly fond of animal protection and adoption charities.
