Sonya Toney Smith, 36, of Lake Worth, Florida passed away suddenly on Friday, June 15, 2012. Sonya was born on December 28, 1975 in Lawrence, Kansas to Julian Toney and Vickie (Toney) Swiercinsky.

Survivors include her husband, Travis Smith; two sons, David Castro and Martin Mannion; parents Vickie & Dave Swiercinsky of Wellington, Florida; Julian and Connie Toney of Waukee, Iowa; brother Jared (Nadia) Toney of Toronto, Canada; brothers Chad and Todd Swiercinsky of Denver, Colorado, and Matt (Katie) Wagner of Iowa City, Iowa; sister Kristen (Terrance) Freeney of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Grandmothers Bonnie Hargrove of Atchison, Kansas, and Jean Swiercinsky of Concordia, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sonya grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Wellington, Florida in 1991. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1994. She attended Palm Beach Community College and Medical Assistant Training, graduating in 1997 as a Certificated Medical Assistant. She loved working at the Women's Institute of Health and Body where she formed close relationships with many co-workers.

Sonya's greatest love and joy were her two sons, David and Martin. On February 6, 2010 she and Travis married at Iron Horse Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. They lived in Lake Worth, Florida. She also loved her dogs Malina, Lexie, and Kusco. She enjoyed spending time at the beach with her family and friends, eating out, and being with her family. She took great pleasure in watching her beloved Kansas City Chiefs with her husband Travis at their favorite sports bar. She loved spending time with her Dad and Stepmom in Iowa, and traveling to their family farm in Lancaster, Kansas, where she delighted in driving the old Farmall tractors.

Sonya was preceded in death by her brother Troy Jacob "T.J." Swiercinsky, grandmother Mildred Toney, grandfathers Warren Toney, Richard Hargrove, and A.G. "Jake" Swiercinsky. Sonya will be dearly missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

A Celebration of Life for Sonya will be held 12:00 pm Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the Chapel of Palm Beach National Chapel with Reverend Ken Johnson officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Sonya Toney Smith Family Assistance Fund in support of David's and Martin's continuing education.
