Obituary

Mr. Russell J. Belleville passed away on September 9, 2018, at the age of 67, born in Portsmouth, N.H. on March 28, 1951. Russ was raised in Kittery, ME where he loved surfing, fishing, borrowing a dingy to borrow some lobsters from a lobster trap, and driving his 1967 red Mustang, which affectionately earned him the nickname, 'tang. After graduating from Traip Academy in 1969, he entered the United States Coast Guard and worked his way up to Chief Petty Officer, while repairing deep sea telecommunications cables. He was honorably discharge after 10 years of service in 1979, due to complications from his psoriatic arthritis.

Russ continued to work in telecommunications where he started as a lineman climbing poles and worked his way up to become head of operations for Siemen's telecommunication division in NYC where he serviced accounts such as the NYSE. Russ transferred to Siemen's Boca Raton office where he worked on the company's Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. It's in Florida that his love of fishing was renewed and he often spent weekends fishing the Atlantic or Gulf waters putting in from John Pennekamp State Park to Deerfield to Everglades City. Russ retired at 56 as a result of his Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Russ began his love of food thanks to his mom, Billie Joanne Burleson. She managed the Red Coach Inn, a steakhouse in Portsmouth, N.H., where he started as a dishwasher to help supplement the family's income while attending high school. He moved his way up to salads and eventually the chef. He kept his love of food and cooking throughout his life and was considered a true chef by all that experienced his meals. Many reminisce about some of their food "firsts" thanks to Russ and still compare dishes to his in order to rate how tasty the food is. He loved to generously feed his family and friends with a variety of delights from his kitchen and soul. No one ever left the table disappointed or hungry.

Russ was known to not let anything slow him down and prevent him from achieving his dreams, even with his disfiguring psoriatic arthritis. With his "take life by the horns" attitude, he took on Alzheimer's and vowed to be part of the solution and not wallow in self-pity, same as he'd done with psoriatic arthritis (from surgeries to different medications). Russ and his wife Diane began volunteering with the Alzheimer's Association and how Russ became an Ambassador for the them. His Ambassadorship with the Alzheimer's Association involved giving speeches all over FL and in Toronto, Canada at an international Alzheimer's convention; it also included lobbying senators in D.C., including Senator Ted Deutsche, to help Early Onset Alzheimer's be covered under Social Security disability.

Russ also entered into several drug trials for Alzheimer's in hopes of finding a cure for his children, grandchildren and future generations of all humans, so none have to know the pain of such a cruel disease that robbed him and his family of his brilliance, sense of humor and passion for living.

Russ is survived by his loving wife Diane of 36 years, his son Travis and wife Christy, his daughter Aliesha and husband Tim, daughter Erin, brother Frank and wife Cathy, sister Cheryl, brother Dennis, sister Annette and husband Bill, sister Michelle and husband Steve, sister Melissa and husband Jeremy, his cousin and best friend Vance, Aunt Jackie, seven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family requests donations are made to the nonprofit Alzheimer's research organization of your choice, in lieu of flowers.

An island style service (in keeping with Russ's love of Jimmy Buffet and island/tropical style living) will be held on Friday, September 28, at 11amEDT at the Palm Beach National Chapel, where Russ will be laid to rest. The family is planning to continue the celebration of Russ's life after the service and the location will be announced at the chapel. Family and friends are welcome to speak at the service and time will be allowed for all that would like to share their cherished memories about Russ.
