Obituary

Dr. Richard “Dick” Schultz

July 11, 1935 – April 16, 2026

Dr. Richard “Dick” Schultz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, surgeon, and Navy officer, passed away at the age of 90 after a full and meaningful life marked by humility, faith, discipline, dedication to medicine, and devotion to family.

Born in St. Louis and raised in New Franklin, Missouri, during the Great Depression, he was the son of the Reverend Norbert and Iona Schultz, whose faith and strong work ethic helped shape the man he became.

He graduated from Central Methodist College in three years as a standout basketball player and earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1960.

He moved to Miami, Florida, to begin his surgical internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he met his eventual wife, Angilee Davis, then a nursing student. After being named Intern of the Year, they married in 1961, prior to his joining the United States Navy, where he served for two years as a Lieutenant and medical officer. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Miami to complete his general surgery residency under some of the giants in general surgery. Upon completion, he moved his family to Broward County, where he built a distinguished career in surgery. His practice of medicine spanned five decades, during which he held key leadership positions in Broward County medical societies as well as at Holy Cross Hospital and North Broward Hospital, where he retired as a trauma surgeon just before his 80th birthday.

Dr. Schultz was deeply respected in the medical community for his skill, integrity, availability, and compassion. He upheld and defended the Hippocratic Oath with honor throughout his lengthy and illustrious career. He founded Gold Coast Home Health Agency and, with the help of his wife Angilee, introduced hospice care to Broward County in 1977—bringing comfort, dignity, and faith-centered support to countless families during life’s most difficult moments.

He was an avid baseball fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a season ticket holder for the Miami Dolphins for more than three decades, enjoying taking his family to games. He also enjoyed traveling and exploring the beauty of God’s creation with his wife and family, visiting numerous countries during his lifetime. Following his international traveling days, he especially cherished the time he and his wife spent in the mountains of Lake Toxaway, North Carolina, antiquing and thrifting together.

He had a lifelong enjoyment of collecting, including antique cars, furniture, clocks, and watches. He also found great joy in the quiet art of growing, nurturing, and shaping bonsai trees, tending to more than 100 plants at the time of his passing.

Above all, he treasured time spent with his beloved wife of 64 years, their three children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He honored God throughout his life and taught his family to do the same. He especially cherished Christmas celebrations and found deep joy in giving to others, understanding that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

His passing will be felt by many.

A Service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Palm Beach National Funeral Home and Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth, Florida 33449.  A private burial service will be held at South Florida National Cemetery immediately following the service.
