Neudorfer
Jun 18, 1924 — Mar 7, 2018
Lantana
Richard Jay Neudorfer, M.D., born June 18, 1924 in New York City, died at age 93 on March 7, 2018 of natural causes at his home in Lantana, Florida.
Dick was educated at Stuyvesant High School, Cornell University, and the University of Chicago Medical School. He left Cornell for three years to serve in World War II as a medic in the Army 14th Armored Division, 47th Tank Battalion. His battalion liberated prison camps and helped push the Germans out of France.
After his return from the war, Dick met Elinor Silverstein at Cornell. They married on June 27, 1948.
From a young age, Dick wanted to become a doctor. After treatment for a back injury as a young man, he decided on orthopedic surgery.
In 1956, he opened his practice in White Plains, NY, working at both White Plains Hospital and St. Agnes Hospital. For a time, he was chief of surgery. He retired to Florida in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Elinor; his son, Robert Neudorfer, and his wife, Kathy Dean; his daughter, Jill Neudorfer, and her husband, Marc Weissman; his daughter, Carol Boucher, and her husband Donald Boucher; his grandson, Joshua Neudorfer and his wife, Molly Neudorfer; and his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Zoe, and Dylan. He was predeceased by his older brother Lawrence.
His family gives heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary caregivers of Trustbridge Hospice, and to the other caregivers who made such a difference to him, and to our family.
There will be no funeral services, but arrangements will be handled by Palm Beach National Chapel of Lake Worth.
