Peter died at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL , Saturday afternoon , July 2, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Mary (Mitzi), Polachek, son Michael Polachek (Patti e ), daughter Nicolette Dorsett (Jack), seven grandchildren: Jeanine Knoll (Brett), Brittany Ward (Nick), Drew Laverty (Lissande), Michael Anthony Polachek, Gina McCarver (Malin), Dan Polachek, Steve Polachek (Samantha) ; six great grandchildren . Peter is also survived by many nieces , nephews , grand and great grand nieces and nephews as he had 10 brothers and sisters . He loved them all. He was especially close to his nephew , John Trachok (Wanda) , serving as his best man at his wedding and to his God-daughter, Le A nne Trachok. He had just celebrated his 92nd birthday.
He was born in western Pennsylvania, and loved sports, excelling in football and wrestling. It was at Boswell High school where he was runner up in the Pa. State Wrestling Championship. As a sophomore at Waynesburg college, he qualified for the national wrestling championships. He left college to join the army during the Korean War where he was selected to learn Morse code and the Russian Language as part of the US Intel defense program . After his discharge he settled in Philadelphia where he married and raised his children. He operated his insurance agency in Glenside, Pa for over 25 years and the new sports were now skiing and golf, excelling in those too. In 2001 he and Mitzi made the move to Florida at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. - New location, new friends and more golf. Just his style. We are already missing him.
The family is planning a veteran's memorial service at the Palm Beach National Chapel, Lake Worth, Fl. on October 22, 2022 with a reception afterwards. We will send more detailed information. If you are considering a charitable donation in his memory, we hope the Veterans Administration, the Alzheimer Foundation or your local Hospice Facility will be a consideration.
