Obituary

Patricia Lynn Piro, age 84, of Lake Worth, FL, passed away on June 19, 2024.

Pat was born and raised in Queens, New York, to her loving parents, Ernest Joseph Piro and Matilda Sabbatino on January 23, 1940.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, June Elizabeth when she was 5 years old.

Pat is survived by her loving family, Jerry (Pam) Sabbatino, as well as an abundance of loving and caring friends. A special thanks to Father Jacob Asiedu-Frempong, for his constant care and comfort.

After attending Holy Cross Academy for Girls in NYC; Pat received a bachelor's degree from Hunter College in Mathematics; a Master of Science in Education Degree from Fordham University; Advanced Degree in Educations Administration and Supervision from CCNY: certified as a paralegal from Adelphi University.

Pat worked for IBM as a systems engineer and served in the District Attorney's office in Queens, N.Y. as a paralegal.

Pat decided to enter into the NYC educational system in East Harlem, District 4, first as a teacher, then as District Title 1 Reading Coordinator and the final ten years of her 38-year  career as Principal of P.S. 206 Manhattan.

Pat served as Adjunct Prof. At Hunter College Graduate School of Education and at Plattsburgh State University instructing and supervising student teachers.

After her retirement, Pat was an avid tennis player and enjoyed oil painting. Pat volunteered with the American Red Cross during 9/11, serving the first responders; police, firefighters and construction workers at Ground Zero.

Pat retired to Lake Worth, Florida in 2006 and was a snowbird to her beloved Smallwood summer home in the Catskill Mountains every summer.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 11 AM to 3 PM at Palm Beach National Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth, FL 33449.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 9 AM, at St. Matthew Catholic Church where she was a member. Father Jacob Aisedu-Frempong will celebrate the Mass. Entombment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tunnels to Towers, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or the Shriner's.
