Obituary

Pamela Bourne (née Briggs), born March 10, 1937, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the Charles W. Gerstenberg Care Center in Palm Beach County, Florida, at the age of 88.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Pamela, was married to the late Luther Bourne for 65 wonderful years. She is lovingly remembered by her children Gillian and her husband Paul, Nicholas and his wife Ruth, as well as her six cherished grandchildren Nia, Ryan, Zachary, Alexander, Nikayla, and Zoie.

Pamela is also survived by her brother Tom and his wife Yvonne, her sister Pearl, and many beloved relatives from the Briggs, Kirton, Bourne, Benjamin, and Hunte families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Briggs Sr and Laura Briggs.

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in St. Kitts, Pamela had a curious and adventurous spirit throughout her life. Her journey began with a bold step in 1959, when she moved to Barbados after marrying Luther. Over the years, she lived in England, Cyprus, and several U.S. states, but Barbados was always home. Her travels took her to every continent except Antarctica, with a solo pilgrimage to the Holy Land standing out as one of the most treasured moments of her life.

Pamela's faith was the heart of who she was. A devoted Christian, she found deep joy and comfort in her church life. During her years in Florida, she was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement, where she formed lasting friendships and felt truly at home. In Barbados, she shared her musical gifts as the organist at St. John the Baptist Church and spent many meaningful years as a cherished member of St. Mary's Church. Earlier in her life, she also served as organist at St. George's Church in St. Kitts, where her love of music and faith first came together in service.

Professionally, Pamela had a diverse and accomplished career. She worked in the criminal courts in St. Kitts, served on the administrative staff at Combermere School for many years, and later joined the travel industry with American Airlines—where her love of travel was perfectly at home.

Her creative talents were endless. Her gift for playing the piano and organ brought joy to many. She took pride in learning and mastering a wide range of crafts, including knitting, crocheting, sewing, macramé, flower arranging, and even wine making and ham curing. Saturday evenings at home were often filled with laughter, flour-covered hands, and the aroma of freshly made roti, pizza, bread, or pastries—treasured moments she shared with her children.

Pamela was known for her warmth, generosity, and zest for life. She maintained lifelong friendships with many, Elsie Kirton, Judy Stober, Rudolph Holder, June and Cedric Burke, Waveney Hunte, Gloria Wilkins, Christine Khoury, the late Eleanor Dottin, the "Golden Girls"- Pam Hinkson, Lola Larrier, Annette Jebodhsingh, Monica Newlands, and the late Doreen Pile - and many others. She was very outgoing and enjoyed entertaining and spending time with family and friends.

Family was at the center of Pamela's life. She was a devoted mother who instilled in her children the values of faith, the importance of a loving home, and the power of staying organized and prepared —often reminding them that "a stitch in time saves nine". These qualities became guiding principles for both Gillian and Nicholas in their personal lives and professional paths. Pamela was also a proud and deeply loving grandmother and great-aunt, always generous with her time, care, and affection—especially when it came to nurturing the younger generations.
A funeral service to celebrate Pamela's life will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 3rd, 2025, at 2 PM, followed by the inurnment in the churchyard. You may also join the family via livestream at www.clydebjonesfuneralhome.com to share in her service. Floral tributes may be sent to Clyde B. Jones Funeral Home, Top Rock, Christ Church, Barbados, no later than 11:30 AM on Tuesday, June 3rd.

Pamela Bourne's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with selflessness, love, adventure, faith, and unwavering kindness. She touched the lives of many with her generous spirit and warm heart, and her legacy continues to live on in the memories and hearts of all who had the joy of knowing her.
