Obituary

On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, Ok Hui Yi Sellari, who was known by her friends as Lee, passed in Duluth, Georgia.  She was the loving mother of two daughters; Carolyn and Helen and widow of her late husband Jerry. She is survived by her daughters, two sisters, Sun Hui and Mi Hui, two brothers Suk Hui and Chun Hui, four grandchildren Charlene, Ryan, Alena, Makena and three great grandchildren, Colt, Carson and William.  She was 82 years old when she passed.

Lee was born near Seoul, Korea in June of 1938, although her exact birthday is unknown.  During the early 60s, she met Jerry Sellari while he was deployed to Korea just after the Korean War.  Lee and Jerry had their first child in 1965 and their second child in 1970.  Fearing another war was eminent between North and South Korea, the family relocated to Georgia then Hawaii where they remained for several years.  Lee was very close to her extended family and was able to relocate her mother and siblings to the United States.  After Jerry's passing in 2015, Lee moved to Duluth, Ga., to be closer to her family who had settled there.

Lee's life in Korea is marked by turbulent times.  The Japanese occupied the peninsular for most of her childhood.  After the Japanese defeat, the country was divided into North and South but in 1950 and only 12 years old, the country was overrun by the communist regime from the North.  She witnessed horrible things as a child, even losing a sister at the time.  Eventually, the Americans pushed the communists out of her town, but conditions remained primitive for the next decade.  When peace finally came and the Americans deployed permanently near Seoul, her life changed for the better.  Her marriage to Jerry allowed her and her entire family to immigrate to the United States where they shared the American dream and built businesses and prospered.

Aside from her family, Lee loved animals.  In Hawaii, hundreds of birds would flock to her driveway whenever she came outside.  The birds knew her, and she was passionate about taking care of them.  She also would drive to a nearby wooded area where dozens of cats would suddenly appear to greet her.  This desire to help animals continued till the final days even after she relocated to Georgia.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2 nd , 2020 at 11:00am Palm Beach National Chapel at 10055 Heritage Farms Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33449.  She will be buried with her husband at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
