The world lost a wonderful lady yesterday! It is with extreme sadness that I share the loss of my Mom. Mildred "Mimi" Hankoff, left us yesterday afternoon. She was just shy of 96 years and 5 months. She was an amazing Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma! She would light up every time her kids, grandkids and great grandkids would come to visit. She was such a devoted, loyal, loving wife who took wonderful care of my Dad. The last few years of my Dad's life, he developed dementia and had to spend his last few years at a nursing facility, but she would go there and spend the day with him every day with few exceptions. She was one of the most kind and caring individuals on this Earth and I am blessed to have had her to call my Mom, and for so many years. She had her faculties and her sense of humor until the very end. She had no trouble getting Michelle and my kids to burst out laughing with her stories about me. For a sweet little lady, she was also a fighter, with strength and will that nobody saw coming. She broke her hip in 2017, which started a downward spiral. Many people her age rarely last six months after that trauma, but she fought hard, rehabbed so she was able to walk again and go back home. Less than a year later she had a pulmonary embolism that landed her in the hospital and in assisted living. A year later, she developed shingles above her eye, which gave her tremendous pain and discomfort nearly every day until the very end. Finally, this past November, shortly after her 96th birthday, she had the beginnings of congestive heart failure, which was the final straw and facilitated the need for Hospice care to make her comfortable. No matter how many years you have them, it is never enough. I am grateful for the time I had with her and am relieved she is now at peace and with my Dad for eternity. I will always remember her and my Dad coming to watch me play baseball, their love of family and always being there for me. I Love You, Mom!
