Ken Pugh loves a good challenge . For many of the 25 years he has spent in circulation , every aspect of his job was done manually , from billing to inserting to routing.
"I remember one day in 1979 when 200,000 inserts went into the wrong day's paper" Ken said . " The crew circulation director and I had to reinsert them into the correct day's paper- but we got it done" For Ken , now a district coordinator in South Broward ,planning and a constant eye toward the needs of the customer are keys to the success that has earned him a wall full of pride awards. Ken always has a plan B, says South and Central Broward circulation manager Chris Cusimano. " He's very focused on the needs of the customer and he's quick to address issues."
Ken began his career at the Fort Lauderdale news and three years later he was promoted to zone manager of South Broward where he managed 18 employees. Since than, he has worked at a number of distribution centers ,always striving to make sure his customers get the paper when they are supposed to .
"The daily challenge and the people have kept me here" he said , There were always interesting challenges, especially when everything was done manually,"
When he was away from work, Ken enjoyed spending time with his wife, Marie, and his heart, Hailey, collecting coins and playing sports. He has been a member of the Sun-Sentinel's bowling and softball leagues throughout the years.
