Kathleen Leona (Stange, Kearney) Spath passed away on May 1 2021. Her husband, Herman Fredrick (Fred) Spath, Jr., preceeded her in death in 2006. Kathleen was born in Meriden, Connecticut in 1929. She had three sisters; Esther Kearney, Doris Rochette, Gertrude Fontaine and three brothers; Howard, Raymond, and Frank Stange, all of Meriden, Connecticut. Her mother Mary Elizabeth Stange and Father Thomas Anthony, all deceased. Kathleen is survived by five children from a previous marriage; Susan Flanagan, Wellington, FL., Patricia Kearney, Casselberry, FL., Kathleen Lockman, Fayetteville, TN, Maureen Lamance, Hutto, TX, and James Kearney, Fayetteville, NC. Also, she leaves 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Kathleen moved from Meriden, CT to Orlando, FL in 1959. She spent the next 61 years in the Orlando, Casselberry, and Winter Park, FL areas raising her family, working, and enjoying her retirement. She retired from Orange County Public Schools after 25 years of service. Over the years, she enjoyed visiting family, spending time with their children, writing poetry, crocheting and knitting for her family. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. Kathleen and her husband Fred, enjoyed traveling to visit family in CT, TX, and she had an occasional trip to Germany to visit her son and family stationed there while in the military. Kathleen and Fred enjoyed having a weekly dinner at Disney's Epcot German Beer Garden restaurant for a number of years enjoying the food and music and forming close friendships with many of the staff members.
Known to many as Kathleen, Kathy, mom, or Grammy, you will be greatly missed. Your house was the house on the block to hang out at, the place to be for a birthday party, and the house family members went to congregate for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and many of the other holidays. We will miss you, your love, your caring, and your laughter. May your spirit live in our hearts and memories forever.
Internment services will be held at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, where Kathleen will be interred with her late husband Fred.
