IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce T.
Sims
October 21, 1928 – September 16, 2023
Joyce Sims, aged 94 and formerly of Miami, FL, peacefully passed away on September 16, 2023, in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Born on October 21, 1928, in Laurel, MS, Joyce grew up in Chicago, IL where she fell in love with David Sims. Their marriage in 1947 marked the beginning of a remarkable 72-year partnership that lasted until David's passing in 2019.
In 1955 the couple relocated to Miami, where David established his medical practice, and together, they nurtured and raised their three children. Joyce expertly managed a bustling household, ensuring each child made it to their scheduled activities, all while cultivating a warm and loving home. Outside the home, Joyce was active with University Baptist Church and the Miami Junior Women's Club. But most of all, Joyce enjoyed bringing the family together, whether by the pool, at the beach or at a sporting event. Family was her greatest source of pride and joy.
Following retirement, the couple settled in Palm Beach Gardens, where Joyce became a Stephen Minister at Trinity United Methodist Church and was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a charitable women's organization. Together, Joyce and David embarked on adventures around the world, including a medical mission to Indonesia, and created lasting travel memories with their cherished grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Thomas (Patricia) Sims and Gregory (Janet) Sims, daughter Susan Sims, five grandchildren (David, Stephanie, Eric, Robert, and Teddy), six great-grandchildren, and her beloved granddog Daisy Mae. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, her parents, Hinkle and Estelle Thomas, and her sister, Janice Van Humbeeck.
