Josephine Anne Mccarthy's Obituary
Josephine Anne McCarthy, 70, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Jupiter Medical Center.
Josephine was born in New Haven, CT. on July 26, 1943 to Jack DeRosa and Amelia D'Amato-DeRosa. She attended St. Mary's High School, class of 1960 in New Haven, CT. She received her nursing degree from St. Mary's Nursing School in Waterbury, CT. She also actively pursued higher education at Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, CT. She was a resident of Ansonia, CT. for 30 years, where she raised her family, as well as running her business, Pied Piper Nursery School from 1968-1984.
In 1984 she joined Sikorsky Aircraft as an RN-COHNS from 1984-2003. In 2001 Josephine and her husband Dennis retired to Palm Beach Gardens, FL., where she continued to work part time and volunteered as an RN, for United Technologies, the Town of Palm Beach and Palm Beach County from 2003-2012. She was an avid mahjong player, enjoyed words with friends and became acclimated to social media. Last, but not least, her constant companion "the cell phone" was a conduit to all.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Dennis L. McCarthy Sr. of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sons, Dennis (Michelle) McCarthy of Charlotte, NC. and Kyle McCarthy of Wallingford, CT; daughter, Stephanie (John) Piddock of Torrington, CT; grandchildren, Andrew Fogarty, Alexander Cummings, Philip Cummings all of CT., and Justin, Shane, Colin McCarthy all of NC; sister, Maria (Joseph) DeRosa-Rossi of New Haven, CT; brother, Jack (Joanne) DeRosa of New Hampshire.
The family will receive friends from 4-6:30pm on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Palm Beach National Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth, FL. 33449. Funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the funeral home.
