IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan
Wissink
February 1, 1929 – July 5, 2025
Joan Wissink, age 96, passed away on July 5, 2025, due to complication with multiple myeloma. Joan was born on February 1, 1929, the youngest of 8 children to Jake and Hannah Liesveld in Hickman, Nebraska. Her younger years were spent working on the farm, helping her mother around the house, pestering her older siblings and loved playing softball.
On November 25, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart Merlin Wissink, and they had 3 children, Thomas, Barbara and Roy while living in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1958 the family moved to central Florida for Merlin's job. Life in Florida was full of new adventures for the family. With the children all being in elementary school, Joan worked in the school cafeteria preparing lunch meals. After a few years in central Florida, Merlin's job took the family further south to Ft. Lauderdale. With the children all getting older and moving on with college and marriages, Merlin and Joan were able to travel, mostly back to Nebraska, to visit family. With Merlin's passing in 1992, Joan moved to Palm Beach as her final location. Joans biggest passion was her love of the Lord and working in all ways within the church. She especially enjoyed singing, including the in the choir and trios. She had a big personality in a small package. She had an impact on each person she interacted with. She was courageous, inspirational, kind, loving, funny and full of joy. Joan is predeceased by her husband Merlin, her son Roy, son-in law, Wayne Grattan, her parents, and siblings, Berl, Richard, Blanche, Paul, Ellen and Owen. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Thomas (Tom) and Bonnie Wissink and daughter, Barbara Grattan, and sister, Letta, who turned 100 on June 2, 2025. Joan also enjoyed her 6 grandchildren, Jason Grattan, Travis Wissink, Shanon Grattan, Troy Wissink, Stacy Grattan and Tyler Wissink. Joan also had 5 great-grandchildren, Lexy Wissink, Jack Wissink, Addie Wissink, Jason Grattan, Jr. and Christa Grattan.
We will be honoring Joan's life with a Celebration of Life starting at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at The New Life Alliance Church located at 1815 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL
