Irwin L. Berner (Larry), 89 of Boynton Beach Florida died February 10 2023. Larry is survived by his daughter, Michelle Hansen, son David Berner and son-in-law Paul Gibson. Also left to cherish his memory are his six grandchildren, Cori Eckman, Rebecca Hansen, Eric Hansen, Christopher Gillespie. Joshua Berner and Zachary Berner and three great grandchildren, Jacob, Juliana and Abigail. Larry is preceded in death by his spouse of 67 years Helene Berner.
Larry was born January 7, 1934 and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He lived in NJ before moving to Florida. He attended Pratt Institute in NYC after a tour of duty with the Army and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He started his career at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville Alabama. and worked for various companies in the missile industry before accepting a position for the city of New York. Larry and Helene opened a restaurant in NJ, Mr. Pizza, their pizza was the best in the area. The lunch counter was always 2-3 people deep.
Larry took up running later in his life and participated in the NYC Marathon and the Marine Marathon in Washington. DC. Larry and Helene loved to travel; their favorite trips were to the island of Aruba. While living in Florida he was a COP marine volunteer and a COP volunteer with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's department. In retirement he took up stained glass and created beautiful pieces of art that will be cherished by those who were the recipients of his creations. He will be missed.
