Irving Booksin, 98, of Singer Island and most recently Frenchmen's Creek, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
Irving leaves behind his two children, Ivy and Adam Booksin as well as his partner of eight years, Ruth Karlin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60+ years, Marion.
Irving was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jack and Pauline Booksin (Brown). His sister Blanche Turnoff and brother Martin both preceded him in death.
Irving served proudly in the U.S. Army, European Theatre during WW II. He is the recipient of multiple Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart, and admittance to the French Legion of Honor. He was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was interned in squalid conditions for nine months. Upon returning to the States, Irving received his BS in Business from New York University (NYU) in four years, at night, while he worked full time to support his ill parents and siblings.. Irving eventually settled down with his wife Marion and children in Forest Hills, New York. He moved to Florida with his wife Marion in 1993.
Irving and Marion were very active volunteers with the VA and other veteran associated groups. They volunteered at the West Palm Beach VA Hospital for over twenty five years. Marion passed away in 2015. Irving met Ruth Karlin in his 90th year through a mutual acquaintance and they were able to enjoy almost eight years together.
Irving will be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious smile, and being a great dad and partner. His motto was "never give up".
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to organizations which help US Army service men and women.
Burial is private.
