Irene Elizabeth Loewengart (née Gorfinkle), a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully at home, on July 14th, at the age of 84, in Wellington, Florida. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Marten, her parents, Evelyn and Herbert Gorfinkle, and her brothers, James and Lawrence. She is survived by her sisters, Emily Watt and Anne Schneider. Irene leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and deep affection from her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held her close to their hearts.


Irene grew up in New Rochelle, NY. After living for many years in Puerto Rico and Manhattan, she and Marten retired to Florida. Throughout her life, Irene was known for her strength of character, gregarious spirit, and sharp humor. She approached life with joy and a sense of play with friends and family. She was also unafraid to share her many opinions.


Irene supported charitable endeavors throughout her life, but especially as a volunteer with the Mt. Sinai Hospital Auxiliary Board in Manhattan, as a member of Hadassah, and as the President of the Sisterhood of Temple Israel of New York. In her leisure time, she was an avid lifelong bridge player and golfer at Wycliffe Golf & Country Club, as well as previously at North Shore Country Club and the Regency Whist Club in New York.
