Harvey "Russ" Lewis Russell, born on July 20, 1935, in Northville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida. A man of dedication, humor, and deep familial commitment, Russ leaves behind a legacy marked by service, love, and countless cherished memories.
Russ’s distinguished military career began with his proud service in the United States Coast Guard, followed by a remarkable tenure in the United States Air Force. He devoted 25 years to military service, retiring with the honorable rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following his military service, Russ lent his skills and passion for flying to IC Industries, where he served as their chief corporate pilot. His professional life was characterized by discipline, expertise, and a love of aviation, all of which he carried with him into every endeavor.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Harvey not only excelled in his career but also in his personal pursuits. Known for his great sense of humor and hands-on approach, he was a wonderful father who provided his family with exceptional opportunities and experiences. He often proclaimed, "a family that works together stays together," a sentiment he lived by and instilled in his loved ones. Harvey's hobbies reflected his creativity and craftsmanship—he was passionate about designing and building houses each time his family moved and enjoyed working on airplanes, blending his technical skills with his passions.
Harvey’s family was his proudest accomplishment, and it is through them that his spirit will continue to be felt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Caryl Begemann; son Rhett Russell and his wife Vasilia; daughter Robin Barkes and her husband Michael; granddaughter Ellen Russell and her husband Alan; and grandchildren Logan Barkes, Brandon Barkes, and Adam Russell. The bond they shared was strengthened by the many adventures Russ loved—flying together, snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing—activities that created lasting memories and deepened their connections.
