Harry S. Stotter, a distinguished banking executive, attorney, military officer, and devoted family man, passed away on July 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, achievement, and love.

Harry retired as Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank, having led major departments in both New York and Florida. He also held senior roles at Summit Bank in New Jersey. A respected attorney, he was admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey and to several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He served in the military with distinction, retiring as a Brigadier General.

Harry was deeply engaged in both industry and civic life. He served as Chairman of the American Bar Association National Conference of Fiduciary Attorneys and Chairman of the American Bankers Association Trust Counsel Committee. His many other roles included Trustee of the Bergen County Bar Association, President of the New Jersey Bankers Association Trust Division, President and CEO of the Bergen County United Way, Trustee of Holy Name Hospital, Treasurer of Hackensack University Medical Center, and President of the Bergen County Girl Scout Council.

Above all, Harry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Marilyn, daughter Cheryl Magnuson, son-in-law Don, and five beloved grandchildren: Lexington and her husband, Spenser Mix; Jeremy; Lassey; Julian and his wife, Hannah; and Scarlett. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey.

Harry brought joy and energy to all he did, from playing in his weekly poker games to playing pickleball, biking, swimming, and rollerblading in Central Park. An avid skier, he tackled slopes from Vermont to the Alps. He cherished arm-wrestling matches with his grandkids, lunch dates with his daughter, and dinners out with Marilyn.

Harry’s life was marked by service, achievement, and love for his family. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, generous spirit, will to live life fully, energy, and the countless lives he touched.
