IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hank G.
Smith
March 2, 1952 – February 28, 2026
Hank G. Smith
March 2, 1952 – February 28, 2026
Hank G. Smith passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. He is now at rest in God's presence.
Born on March 2, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Hank was the son of the late Henry and Teresa Berkant Smith. He was raised in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, the eldest of five siblings. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Julie Conway and Dorothy (Luke) Loyack. He is survived by his brothers, Frank (Joyce) Smith and Joseph (Helen) Smith.
From a young age, Hank demonstrated a deep sense of responsibility and dedication to family. While his father worked swing shifts at a local paper mill, Hank helped care for the household, tending the coal furnace during cold winter nights to keep his mother and siblings warm. His steadfast devotion to others defined his life.
Believing strongly in the power of education, Hank became the first in his family to attend college, earning his bachelor's degree from Mansfield University in 1974. There he met Patricia (Huff), the love of his life. They were married on August 3, 1974, and began their careers in education in Ohio and built a life together rooted in faith, love, and service.
Hank devoted his professional life to serving students and communities. He began as an elementary school teacher and advanced to become a principal and later a school superintendent. He was known for his integrity, humility, and unwavering respect for every member of the school community.
His favorite hobby was taking care of the yard and his 2005 red Corvette. He would spend hours preparing it for car shows throughout the southeastern United States. He had a trophy case displaying how his endeavors paid off. The corvette is now in the loving hands of his son, Stephen.
Hank will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and genuine care for others. Hank loved people. He loved to laugh. He loved to make others smile. He never missed a chance to offer a compliment or a kind word. Thoughtful, steady, and deeply caring, he was the kind of man who made the world feel warmer just by being in it.
His greatest pride and deepest joy were his family. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 51 years, Patricia; his daughter, Christine Noel (Smith) Sadecki (Michael); his son, Stephen Patrick Smith (Lesley); and his treasured grandchildren, Ryan Sadecki, Leah Sadecki, Evan Smith, and Adam Smith.
Hank will be laid to rest at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
Rest in peace, sweetheart. Until we meet again.
The family suggest donations in Hank's memory be made to the Parkinson's Foundation
