Obituary

George Timothy Murphy of Riviera Beach, FL passed away August 9, 2023, at 85 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Rosedale, NY. He was raised by his father, an immigrant from Waterford County, Ireland and mother Loretta Murphy. George grew up with his twin sister Loretta and older sister Mary.

Early in life George developed a passion for cars. Learning and working on cars with his father turned beneficial in the later years of his career. In 1953, he was drafted into the US Army where he served for three years during the Korean conflict. After discharge, George returned home and ran into the love of his life Florence who he later married and started a family.

In 1955, George worked for Reingold Brewery on third shift catching the attention of the higher position leaders ultimately offering him a new promotion with a bigger company. George earned his logistics degree at Dartmouth College then began his career with Leaseway Transportation as a Vice President Fleet Director in Somerset, NJ. Traveled worldwide multiple times. His job required him to maintain 400 fleet distribution centers and manage over a thousand employees. In 1998, George decided to retire early since Penske bought Leaseway and move down to Singer Island, FL with his lovely wife and daughter where he enjoyed deep sea fishing, racetracks, walking Penny his min pin, and was actively involved with the Riviera Beach City Council.

George was beloved by many. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Loretta and Thomas Murphy and his sisters, Loretta, and Mary. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Antoinette Murphy, and survived by daughter Lisa Rose Murphy of Riviera Beach, FL; daughter Lori Ann Murphy of Schertz, TX; daughter Linda Murphy-Puglia husband John Puglia; granddaughters Erin Knoell and Christina Sandberg with her husband Jake; granddaughter Angelina Puglia and grandson Jonathan Reisovic; great-grandsons Benjamin and George Sandberg.
