IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Martin
Stevens
January 21, 1945 – May 21, 2023
Gary Martin Stevens, 78, of Lake City, FL after living many years in Fort Lauderdale, FL passed away May 21, 2023. He was born January 21, 1945 in Omaha, NE. Gary was one of 9 siblings, son of the late Herbert and Margaret Stevens. He graduated from South High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1964.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife Katherine, his brothers Richard Stevens and Kenneth Stevens, and his sister Marcia Halac.
He is survived by his stepson Scot Hall, daughter-in-law Leslie Hall, grandchildren Andrew Hall, Sean Hall (Gina), Micki Hall, Madelyn Edwards, Charles Edwards, great-grandson Radley Hall, brother Mark Stevens, sisters Janet Pope, Karen Schreiber, Gayle Moore, Andrea Baratta (Louis) and many, many nephews and nieces.
A Vietnam War veteran, Gary Stevens entered the service of the U.S. Army in 1964. He was a Soc Trang Tiger in the 121st Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam from 1966-67. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, National Defence Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Aircraft Crewman Badge.
Gary Stevens was known and loved wherever he went. He touched the lives of many with his witty sayings, fantastic storytelling, servant-hearted generosity, and unconditional love. Life was "hunky-dory" around Gary Stevens, even if you were a "nincompoop." He loved swimming in Florida springs, meeting his friends each morning for coffee, spotting impressive trees, and gardening the best he could in Florida dirt. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time around the cards table with his siblings, and "bumming around" the small towns of Florida with his grandchildren.
Gary Stevens was a consistent and strong man of faith, belonging to Epiphany Catholic Church in Lake City, Florida. He prayed every day for his family and friends, and "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding" rested on him into eternity. (Philippians 4:7)
