Galeno Caban Rivera, a distinguished architect and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida. Born on May 11, 1943, in San Turce, Puerto Rico, Galeno's life was marked by dedication, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to both his profession and the people he loved.
Galeno’s journey began with a rich cultural foundation that led him to attend the Music and Arts High School in New York City. He later pursued higher education at the University of Miami, where he earned a degree in Architecture and Business. His academic achievements paved the way for a remarkable career that included significant projects such as contributing to the architectural development at the West Palm Beach Veterans Administration Hospital and the expansion of Miami International Airport. His work left a lasting impression on these important community landmarks, reflecting his intelligence and artistic sensibility.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Galeno was a man devoted to his family and cherished those moments deeply. His wife of 40 years, Georgianna Rivera, recalls their many happy memories traveling together, a shared passion that spoke to his love of adventure and the ocean. Galeno also had a profound appreciation for music, concerts, museums, and artworks, which complemented his artistic nature. He was an avid pool player, fond of engaging in friendly games that highlighted both his competitive spirit and warm camaraderie.
Galeno’s character was shaped by his service in the United States Army, where he earned an honorable discharge, exemplifying his sense of duty and honor. Those who knew him remember a caring and intelligent individual, devoted to family and community.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Georgianna Rivera; his son Joel Rivera and daughter-in-law Leihina; step-daughters Karen Boyd and Susan Strack; as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who carry on his legacy.
Services honoring the life of Galeno Caban Rivera will be held on April 21, 2026, at the Palm Beach National Funeral Home & Chapel in Lake Worth Beach, Florida. The viewing begins at 10:45 a.m., followed by a visitation at 11:15 a.m., and a Celebration of Life ceremony at 11:45 a.m. A burial service will take place at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth at 1:00 p.m.
Galeno’s life was a testament to a love of art, family, and country. His memory will remain a source of inspiration and comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
