Evelyn Yackanich (nѐe Petruska), 94, formerly of Beaver Meadows, PA, passed away peacefully at Edgeworth Park in Williamsburg, VA after a lengthy illness.
A graduate of Hazleton High School, she had a lifelong passion and talent for sewing, beginning her early career at Carmella Dresses in Hazleton.
In 1959, she married her beloved husband of 60 years, Nicholas “Little Nick” Yackanich, and together they moved to South Bound Brook, NJ where they raised their two sons. During this time, she also became an avid bowler – regularly competing in the local women's league.
In 1973, the family relocated to North Miami Beach, FL where she continued her seamstress work at Boys Town clothing store and Ann-Teri's Alterations. A devout woman of deep faith, Evelyn was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunellen, NJ, St. Basil Byzantine Catholic Church in Miami, FL, Holy Apostles Byzantine Catholic Church in Lake Worth, FL following their retirement, and later Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA.
Following the passing of her husband, Nick, in 2019, Evelyn moved to Williamsburg, VA to be near her great grand children.
Surviving are her loving sons, Nicholas “Nicky” (Lisa) of Lake Worth, FL, and Michael (Charlene) of Williamsburg, VA; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Peter, Joseph, James, Austin, and Alison Pariso (Frank); and three great-grandchildren, Eliana, Anthony, and Charles.
A funeral service will be held November 16th at the Palm Beach National Chapel in Lake Worth, FL. A committal service will follow at South Florida National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest besides her husband.
Flower Delivery: Please ensure all floral arrangements are delivered to Palm Beach National Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Rd., Lake Worth Beach, FL 33449, as this is where the funeral service will be conducted.
