Edward C. Huber Obituary

10/28/1937 – 9/21/2020

Ed was born to Edward and Muriel Huber of the Bronx, NY and was raised in the Throggs Neck area of the Bronx. He graduated from Stuyvesant HS in Manhattan, Rockland Community College, and Mercy College (all in NY).  He served active duty US Army 1956-1958; US Army Reserves 1958-1960; and US National Guard 1960-1962.  He married Grace Eriksen on July 25, 1959.  In 1964 he became a police officer in New York City and retired from the NYPD in 1991 as a Lieutenant after proudly protecting and serving the public for 27 years.  Ed was a member of the Masons Wyoming Lodge #342 in the Bronx.  In 1965 he moved from the Bronx to Spring Valley, NY.  In 1973 he moved to New City, NY.  He later moved to Highland Falls, NY then to Baldwinsville, NY and settled in Boynton Beach, FL in 2015.  He is survived by his wife, Grace; his three sons, Charles (Lynette), James, and Kenneth (Carole); his eight grandchildren, Richard, Katherine, Julia, Erik (Annika), Mark (Liz), Jason (Lissa), Mathew, and Carly; and his three great grandchildren, Clara, Lia, and Kai.

To say Ed loved sports is a vast understatement. He played fast pitch softball in NYC and Rockland County and was known for his tape measure homeruns.  He once hit a homerun over the Congers firehouse and into the parking lot across the street…unofficially estimated at 450 feet.  But he made even more of a mark in Rockland as a coach and official:
Head coach Spring Valley Pony Express Youth Football 1968-1969.
Co-founded Ramapo Gryphons Youth Football program 1970, was head coach 1970-1974.
Managed Spring Valley Little League Baseball 1966-1974, Jawonio Tournament runners up in 1972 and 1973.
Coached Spring Valley Youth Bowling League 1968-1974.
Coached Spring Valley Youth Basketball 1968-1974.
Managed New City Little League 1975-1979 winning 5 straight championships.
Spring Valley HS JV baseball head coach and varsity assistant coach 5 years in 1980s.
Ramapo HS JV football head coach and varsity assistant coach 5 years in 1980s.
Head coach Pomona Jr. HS football, baseball, & basketball teams for 3 years in late 1980s/early 1990s.
Rockland County baseball, softball, football, and basketball official for recreational youth leagues, Little Leagues, Senior Leagues, Jr. HS, JV and varsity HS, and college 1965-2008.
He was very proud that he helped thousands of young men and women over that 44-year span.  Many of them stayed in touch with him right up to the day he passed away.
