Obituary

Dorothy Waldo January 1932 - April 2020

Dorothy " Dot " Elaine Waldo of Mashpee, MA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 16th, 2020, in Boynton Beach, FL.  She was born in West Haven, CT the daughter of Michael and Elsie Lunde.  She lived in Wellesley, MA for many years, then retired to Mashpee, MA and wintered in Boynton Beach, FL.  She is survived by her loving husband of almost 53 years, Richard Waldo, her two children, Susan Bell (Jabin) of Chantilly, VA, and Michael Waldo (Stacey) of Grand Haven, MI, 6 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

She received her RN at Orange Memorial Hospital in New Jersey, and continued her studies at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  She worked as a surgical nurse at the Lahey clinic in Boston, then as a nurse in the Wellesley College infirmary.  At Wellesley she provided physical, emotional, and spiritual care for many Wellesley women.

Dot loved Jesus and the Bible. She  attended Bible Study Fellowship and served as a group leader for many years.  While living in Wellesley, Dot was a member of Park Street Church, where she and Rick met.  In Southport on Cape Cod she was a member of Christ Chapel, where she was a deacon.  While in Florida she attended Seacrest Presbyterian Church.

Dot was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved spending time with her family at Camp of the Woods in New York.  She was creative and generous and gave away many of the beautiful quilts, hats, and scarves that she created.  Her oil paintings captured beautiful landscapes, particularly of the ocean.   She loved to play games, especially ' bonko ' with the grandkids and always looked forward to her weekly bocce league.

Dot rarely met a stranger.  If she could not find a connection she would make one and add you to her prayer list.  Dot always had a Gideon New Testament in her purse and looked forward to every opportunity to meet someone new and give them the word of God.  Dot was an example to all, especially her grandchildren, of how to live a Christian life with a servant's heart.  Dot will be greatly missed.

A future memorial service is being planned on Cape Cod.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that you honor her memory with a donation to the Gideons https://www.gideons.org/donate or The Gideons International Processing Center P.O. Box 97251  Washington, DC 20090-7251
