Jupiter, Florida - On his 85th birthday, Charlie Lawson Williams earned his angel wings at Palm Beach Gardens Hospital. Charlie was born the youngest son of Thomas Franklin Williams and Sallie (Reeves) Williams. He graduated from Saint George High School in 1954 and joined the US Air Force where he served four years and was the youngest and lowest ranked staff sergeant in his unit. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and went on to earn an ANE diploma from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute in 1961. He flew private planes for several years and was employed at Cape Kennedy (Canaveral) by North American Rockwell as a Mechanical Launch Support Technician where he assisted in many of the Apollo launches.
After he was laid off, he moved his family back to SC and began employment at Carolina Eastman, first as a mechanic before being upgraded to the Plant Equipment/Material Expeditor. He retired in 1997 after 25 years with the company to spend time with his grandson and family.
Charlie married Ann (Ginny) McKinney, on her birthday, June 15, 1963, in Jupiter, Florida at
St. Jude's
Catholic Church. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Reevesville, SC and was also a member of the American Legion.
He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 58 years, Ginny, treasured daughters Kelley Williams Ott (Russell) and Kimberly Williams (Matthew), adored grandson Tanner Lawson Morse (Kailee), adopted grandson Isaac Reid (Emily), his loving nieces and nephews, and many, many friends who adored him. He will also be terribly missed by his furbabies at home.
Charlie was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence and Paul.
