Charles Robert “Bob” Stock, a venerable figure in the banking community and a beloved family man, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at The Residences of Greenwood in South Carolina. He was 89 years old.
Born on October 18, 1936, in Canton, Ohio, Bob was the cherished son of the late Carl V. and Naomi Yarnell Stock. After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, he embarked on a remarkable banking career spanning over five decades in South Florida. Bob's dedication and leadership were evident in his roles as President of First State Bank of Lantana and later as President and CEO of Great Southern Bank, which operated several branches throughout Palm Beach County. His commitment extended beyond his professional duties, reflecting in his longstanding membership and support of the Florida Bankers Association and the Black Business Investment Corporation (BBIC).
Bob was a man of many passions outside of his career. An avid sportsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and most passionately, golf. His sporting allegiance was uniquely divided between Notre Dame and Ohio State, and he remained a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Boston Red Sox. Additionally, Bob proudly held memberships with the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited. His life was deeply anchored in his Christian faith, which he upheld steadfastly throughout the years.
He was the loving husband of the late Ruth Carol Drake Stock and is survived by his six devoted children: John Stock of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Jeannie Firogenis of West Palm Beach, Florida; Mary Ellen Webster and her husband Kenneth of Waverly Hall, Georgia; Daryl Lyon and his wife Valentina of Wellington, Florida; Marci Stock of Abbeville, South Carolina; and Justin Stock and his partner Emily Floore of St. Marys, Georgia. Bob’s legacy also lives on through his eight grandchildren, his brother Joe Stock of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and his sister Jayne Teague of Ohio. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Carol Drake Stock, his parents, and his brother Rick Stock.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Bob’s life will be held on May 9, 2026, at the Palm Beach National Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth Beach, Florida. The memorial gathering will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed promptly by the service at 12:00 p.m. This occasion will provide family, friends, and all who knew him an opportunity to reflect on his remarkable life and enduring contributions.
Charles Robert “Bob” Stock's life was characterized by unwavering devotion—to family, career, community, and faith. His memory will remain a source of inspiration and comfort to all who were fortunate to know him.
