Obituary

Arthur James Davis was born on September 26th, 1952 as a premature baby in the field of his grandparents' farm outside of Millstone, NJ to Gladys E Pettersen Davis and William Philip Livingston Davis II. The Davis family would welcome two more children Barbara and Evelyn before moving to South Florida in 1960. That same year a little bundle of joy joined the family, Phil. Mom and Dad Davis were very active in their local Baptist church, no matter the community. Faith as a cornerstone in both days of joy and sorrow.

In his adolescence, Arthur decided he wanted to be known as Jim and Jim rebelled in the most vanilla way possible. He developed a love of Rock and Roll. The British Invasion to Elvis, The Doors to Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell to Yoko Ono. The musical playlists that filled his life were as wide as any person could imagine, ABBA to Zappa and everything in between.

At the height of the Vietnam War and subsequent draft, Jim enlisted in the US Navy requesting a tropical location. Apparently, the Navy didn't have a map or the good Lord had other plans. Jim arrived in Thurso, Caithness, Scotland in the fall of 1971 just after his 19th birthday. He never felt a tropical breeze to say the least but his heart skipped more than one beat when he met a lovely local girl at a party. Jim was smitten with Gina in an instant. He followed her like a kitten for weeks. Gina's wonderful mother had pity on him and fixed him meals that not only fed his body but his soul till the day he left his Earthly plain. Jim and Gina were married two days after Jim's 21st birthday. He always shared the most incredible accomplishment was taking home his walking, talking souvenir he adored.

After returning to the states, Florida to be exact, Jim and Gina had a little apartment then a little house where they welcomed home their daughter Andrea Johanna in November of 1981 and Andrew James in December of 1984. Jim loved playing rough with his kids. He taught them the importance of waiting till the two minute warning before getting up to go to the bathroom. He was filled with so much pride when Andrea won a coloring contest as a tiny tike. He had joy in his heart when he taught Andy's developing spiral and playing catch. A few years later moving into their home in Lake Worth where Jim laid his head till the day he died.

In 2005 Jim suffered a heart attack that should have killed him…. He not only lived, he thrived. He had a newer perspective on life. He volunteered at the hospital where he could and spent every minute he could with the family he built and loved. As fate would have it, one major health problem was not enough for him. His kidneys started to fail in 2015. Faced with Dialysis and all the appointments and potential complications he elected to go to Hospice to not hold anyone back from living their life. Faced with this, his daughter Andrea moved in with him and her mom to make sure they felt the support no matter what was going on. Considering both Jim and Andrea are both always right and both very, very, very long winded there were many little squabbles but never a night that did not end with the words "I love you." One of Jim's proudest moments in life was getting Andrea to start to watch the historic home run, run of Aaron Judge in 2022. They could be heard cheering for him most nights that summer and Andrea finally fell in love with the game; up till then it was more like a chore. Andrea, through Jason's influence, was able to delight her Dad with sport fun facts and true love of their beloved Yanks. In the last few years Jim, faced with his mortality, made it a point to offer a kind word to every person he met in the hospital, all the other clients he met at the Dialysis center and all the staff of every medical office he attended. He laid to rest any disagreements he had. He would just say "it's a lot easier to just love people, than not."

Anyone willing to give him their ear for a moment would hear about how proud he was of the accomplishments of his son, Andy and his beautiful wife, Nikki and the two little girls that brought him so much joy, Mila and Grace.

Jim and Gina's love story did not end the way so many do today. Gina lovingly cared for Jim until the morning his body no longer could. She kept his dignity in place. Truly, the most genuine example of what commitment and love are.

With confidence, we know he was reunited with his beloved little brother Phil, his mom, his father, mother-in-law Barry, father-in-law Benny, sister Evelyn, stepfather Pete, many dear friends and a slew of dogs and cats that brought him unconditional love and happiness. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Gina, daughter Andrea, son-in-law Jason, son Andy, daughter-in-law Nikki, sister Barbara, brother-in-law Keith, Aunt Janet, granddaughters Mila and Grace, sisters-in-law Eileen and Betty, several nieces and nephews and anyone lucky enough to cross his path.
