Obituary

Anthony Robert Radwanski, "Tony Rad", 66 of Philadelphia died suddenly January 22, 2019 of cardiogenic shock in Boynton Beach FL. Devoted husband for 43 years of Kathleen (nee Stampone) and son of the late Anna Duonnolo and Anthony Radwanski. Loving brother-in-law of Nick and Richard (Melanie) Stampone. Very proud uncle of Joe, Nikole, Mike, Madeline, Sophia and Nicky Stampone. Caring Godfather of Laney Volpe and Andi Stampone. Dear cousin of Ann (Chip) Wood, Marie Dickson and Loretta (Pete) Linke.

A childhood singing prodigy, Tony was a member of the Philadelphia Boys Choir and performed the title role in the local and traveling company of the musical Oliver. At the age of 17, he spent a month in Japan, singing with the Ambassadors of Song, his high school's choral group. He attended Frankford High School and Temple University and was involved in politics at an early age as a Democratic Committeeman. He worked on numerous national campaigns and ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 1979. Tony was a dedicated government employee for his entire career, starting in 1974 as an investigator in the City Controller's Office, rising to Chief of Special Investigations and attaining the position of First Deputy City Controller before departing in 2006 to work for Philadelphia City Council as Communications Director until his retirement in 2012. The Philadelphia Inquirer once named him "Best in Business" for his role interfacing with the media. In addition to serving in city government, he delighted his large fan base as a singer of the Great American Songbook at La Casa Di Lucia's Restaurant for the past 17 years, where he will be sorely missed.

Tony was very active in civic and charitable causes, serving as past president of Glen Foerd Conservation Corp., on the board of the NE Hall of Fame, East Torresdale Historical Society and former Treasurer of the Northwood Civic Association. He was also active with Showtime Charities, the Solo Musician Network and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.
