Obituary

A time to be born:
Andrew Chambers Cureton, Junior (also known as "Sonny")
was born on May 26, 1933 in Flushing, New York to Andrew Cureton, Senior and Emma (Bowers) Cureton. The eldest son, Andrew was the second of the couple's.
A time to build up:
Andrew attended public school in New York. He entered the Navy upon graduating from high school and served during the Korean War on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to New York where he met and married his life partner, Ellen (Ratliff) Cureton. With her love and support, he was able to attend Queens College where he received his anesthesia training. His healthcare career spanned forty plus years; the marriage spanned a lifetime. Together they nurtured four children: Debi Williams, Alex Cureton, M.D., Terri Cureton, LPN, and Fleur Sterling, RPhT.

A time to serve:
Andrew was a Christian man of faith. His faith strengthened him in his role as husband and father. He was baptized in Saint John's Baptist Church, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, led by the Reverend Dr. Kelmo Porter, Junior.

A time to mourn: Andrew stretched out his hand to Jesus, and went home with
the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ellen, their four children, eight grand- children (Dominique, Elaine, Andre, Alexis, Angela, Alicia, Andrea, Nicholas), two great-grand children (Riley and Naya), two surviving siblings (Jeanette and Martha) and a host of nieces,nephews, extended family, friends and co-workers. He was the head of our family.

Our support and protector and he is greatly missed.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
My life's been full, I've savored much;
good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wants me now. He set me free.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday, Decemeber 23, 2013 at the Palm Beach National Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth, FL. Interment will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy. (Lane 5)
