Obituary

Alexander William Anthony Torla
"Allie Boy"
July 20, 1937 – February 15, 2025

Words cannot express our profound loss and deep sorrow at the passing of Alexander Torla, our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his eight children, 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his devoted wife, Edwina. We will forever miss his Brooklyn accent, his signature Tom Jones dance moves, and the cherished stories of his life.

He was born, raised and lived most of his life in Brooklyn, New York.  His own father died when he was a young man forcing him to grow up fast, graduating from Erasmus Hall High and the school of 'Hard Knocks'.

In 1956, he enlisted in the Navy and moved to Pensacola, Florida, where his first child was born.  After the Navy he returned to Brooklyn where he set out to make his way in the world, the only way he knew how.  "Allie Boy" earned his reputation as a union delegate who also ran a trucking and flooring business, car services', nightclub's, private poker clubs, delis and even a wig shoppe.  An old school entrepreneur and go getter, he eventually acquired enough real estate to manage an early retirement to Florida.

More than anything, Al was dedicated to his family and placed emphasis on education. He was proud that his children would go on to graduate college.  In his later years he played an active role in the lives of his many grandchildren, becoming the "Peepa" and Grandpa that they could always rely on to tell a story, lend an ear, and set a positive example.

Al was a cherished Husband, Dad and Grandfather - loving, kind, a great listener, and always there for the family.  We will miss him forever and will always feel grateful and find joy in the memories we shared with him.
